What is ICS?

microsite02Intro to College Studies (ICS) is a free, non-credit class that offers a fun and effective environment for helping students—from the high achiever to the disengaged student–build skills and confidence for college. Students who successfully complete the course are eligible to apply for a voucher (pending availability) for a free course at any of the Vermont State Colleges or partner colleges.  ICS helps students make the transition from high school to college by exploring college expectations and developing essential skills such as time management, test-taking, studying, communication, stress management and goal setting.

81% of students who complete ICS say that the class gave them the experience and confidence they need for college.  64% of ICS students enroll in college after graduating from high school, a rate that is significantly higher than that for all Vermont high school grads.

The ICS course is generally offered in a 13-week session with classes meeting once a week for two hours, but in the summer several shorter, more intensive sessions are held. It is offered at every CCV location statewide and at other Vermont state colleges. Classes start soon!

Intro to College Studies is made possible through CCV’s partnerships with the Vermont State Colleges, VSAC, the Nellie Mae Foundation, the Next Generation Commission, the Carl Perkins Act, the J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Vermont Community Foundation, and Vermont’s technical centers and high schools.

Many high schools in Vermont give students who complete ICS credit towards high school graduation.  If your school does not yet offer credit for ICS, contact Natalie Searle, 802-786-5148 or Katie Mobley, 802-951-1203.
