What is ICS?

Introduction to College Studies (ICS) is a free, non-credit course that can help your son or daughter develop strategies for college success. ICS helps students make the transition from high school to college by exploring college expectations and developing essential skills such as time management, test-taking, studying, communication, stress management and goal setting.

81% of students who complete ICS say that the class gave them the experience and confidence they need for college.  64% of ICS students enrolled in college after graduating from high school, a rate that is significantly higher than that for all Vermont high school grads.

The ICS course is generally offered in a 13-week session with classes meeting once a week for two hours, but in the summer several sessions are offered in shorter, more intensive formats.  It is offered at every CCV location statewide and at other Vermont state colleges. Intro to College Studies is made possible through CCV’s partnerships with the Vermont State Colleges, VSAC, the Nellie Mae Foundation, the Next Generation Commission, the Vermont Community Foundation, Carl Perkins and Vermont’s technical centers and high schools.

Many high schools in Vermont give students who complete ICS credit towards their high school graduation.  Contact your child’s school counselor to find out how ICS fits into your child’s high school requirements.
